On Reputation

It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently.

On his most basic rules

Rule No. 1: Never lose money

Rule No. 2: Never forget Rule No. 1

On sources of income

Never count on a single income. Make investments to create additional sources of revenue.

On spending

If you buy things you don't need, you'll soon have to sell things you do need.

On saving

Don't save what you have left after spending, but spend what you have left after saving.

On taking risks

Never measure the deepness of a river with both legs.

On honesty Honesty is a very expensive thing, don't expect it from cheap people. On inheritance  A rich man must leave his children enough to do anything, but not enough to do nothing. On ideas You do things when the opportunities come along. I've had periods in my life when I've had a bundle of ideas come along, and I've had dry spells. If I get an idea next week, I'll do something. If not, I won't do a damn thing.  On the trickle theory The rich are always going to say that, you know, just give us more money and we'll go out and spend more and then it will all trickle down to the rest of you. But that has not worked the last 10 years, and I hope the American public is catching on. On investing in the future Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago. On habits Chains of havit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken. On becoming rich I always knew I was going to be rich. I don't think I ever doubted it for a minute. On learning from betters It's better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you'll drift in that direction. On price and value Price is what you pay. Value is what you get. On taxes for the rich If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further. But I think that people at the high end - people like myself - should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we've ever had it. On challenges I don't look to jump over 7-foot bars; I look around for 1-foot bars that I can step over. On being rich Of the billionaires I have known, money just brings out the basic traits in them. If they were jerks before they had money, they are simply jerks with a billion dollars. On risk Risk comes from not knowing what you are doing. On Wall Street Wall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway. On how he invests I never attempt to make money on the stock market. I buy on the assumption that they could close the market the next day and not reopen it for five years. On hindsight In the business world, the rearview mirror is always clearer than the windshield. On Ponzi schemes Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked. On learning from history If past history was all there was to the game, the richest people would be librarians. On healing the economy Economic medicine that was previously meted out by the cupful has recently been dispensed by the barrel. These once unthinkable dosages will almost certainly bring on unwelcome after-effects. Their precise nature is anyone's guess, though one likely consequence is an onslaught of inflation.

Six things for a second Terrific Tuesday!

Do you have precious fur babies? Do their names reflect their personalities? 

I have kitties because my apartment doesn't allow dogs.

My very first kitten was born in a garage in a village by the sea known as Port Chester. When I first saw him he was so incredibly tiny that Little One was the obvious name. 

A cat named Patience came into my life. A favorite saying of mine, "God grant me patience and I want it now." So, He gave me a cat. It seemed fitting she crossed the Rainbow Bridge on January 6, 2009. Little Christmas, the Fiest of the Epiphany. Baby Jesus got gold, frakensense and muir but every baby should have a precious purr ball. 

My ragdoll kitten became two. I fell in love with a blue color point (expecting that I would want a bi-color) This little girl "pranced" across the floor. When we decided to take two, Prancer and Dancer needed a bit more. We got Miss Bonnie Prancer and Sir Clyde Dancer. Bonnie and Clyde meet Prancer and Dancer. It works for me.

What do you do when you hear a kitten crying in the back yard? You find a three week old calico entwined in a chain-link gate. The paw was swollen the size of her little head and she was all of the size of a beanie baby. Cutting her free, protecting her overnight and taking her to the vet the next day Rusty Cat joined the mix.

The sixth for this list is Miss Scarlett O'Hara. A rescue, a gray and white American shorthair with beautiful green eyes and a heart on the side. Miss Scarlett wears her heart on her sleeve.

Cinco de Mayo! Five things for a Magic Monday:

I have five cars. Some reading this may wonder, "why does one person need five cars?" I don't "need" five cars and I love each one for a different reason. Thinking back over the years I realized that for most of my life cars have been involved. I would challenge myself while waiting for the school bus to identify the car coming around the corner and then expanded that challenge to guessing the year. 

There is a poster entitled "Justification for a Higher Education" and it depicts a waterfront house on a hill with the sun setting and a detached five car garage with exotic and daily drivers.  

1. 2006 Chevrolet HHR - my daily driver. This is one of the best cars General Motors has introduced. 2012 marked the last production year so I need to make this one last a long, long time. There isn't anything else on the market that seats five, offers 6 feet of cargo space when the back seats are down and nine feet to the dash when the passenger seat is stowed flat (and flat it is making it one of the only cars I know of that does this.) You can literally use the passenger seat as a workspace!
2. 2005 Chevrolet Corvette - my fifth Corvette and first manual and well as first brand new Corvette. I got her with 4 miles off the truck from the factory. She is LeMans Blue Metallic, cashmere interior, black convertible top, six speed dream machine and her name is Kasmir.
3. 1990 Mazda Miata - an antique in waiting but not much longer. In 2015 she will be 25 years old and have earned historical/antique status.
4. 1962 Oldsmobile F85 Cutlass - this was the first year that Oldsmobile put the Cutlass emblem on a car. This particular design was only made for three years, 1961 through 1963 and was state of the art. It has an aluminum block motor, 16" factory wheels, three speed on the column and factory air conditioning. 
5. 1962 Chevrolet Corvette - the last year of the C1 and first time the cowl was painted the same color as the body. The unique thing about 1961 and 1962 Corvettes is the transition stage. The rear of the car is the C2 body while the dual headlights and solid axel C1 features remain. She is Honduras Maroon with black interior, black convertible and Honduras Maroon hardtop.

Three things for a Superb Saturday:

Many years ago I was introduced to the concept called network marketing. Late 20th Century there were a number of companies offering products through independent associates. Associates were compensated based on building successful teams. Early 21st Century, network marketing received very bad press. This is not the fault of a business model; it is the fault of greed.

Two things for today on a Fabulous Friday!

The weather is gorgeous especially after the flooding rain this week.

The April Guiding Eyes Heeling Autism class wraps up today. Pekoe and five other wonderful dogs will begin their new journey as partners with children with autism. The families lives will change for the better forever. The road ahead awaits!

Today is a Terrific Thursday. This post is focused on one thing; one perfect day. So many excellent things happened, what a fantastic way to start the month of May!

🔷  Finally closed my buyer clients apartment after a little over six months!

🔷  Received confirmation we have a new home in White Plains for our annual charity car and motorcycle show. Thank you Pace University, Pace security and the Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel. 

🔷  Fantastic evening at Colgate's Presidents Club held at The Lighthouse at Pier 61, Chelsea Piers, New York City. The evening weather was absolutely perfect and views spectacular.
